Pipette Laser Marking: the SPM24 Practical Approach

24-Station Organization: Order and Method
The machine’s operation is based on a 24-station intermittent motion star wheel. This technical choice stems from the need to manage the production flow in an orderly manner, ensuring that each individual pipette is correctly positioned for the marking phase.
Furthermore, we have integrated a sector-based vacuum system on the star wheel that holds the pipettes perfectly still and aligned as they pass under the laser. This feature is essential to ensure that every mark is placed exactly where it needs to be, eliminating any potential deviation.
Our Approach to Pipette Laser Marking
To achieve legible and durable graduated scales, we relied on Keyence technology. In particular, the use of a three-axis marker allows us to better manage small geometric variations in the parts. As a result, we can maintain a constant focus across the entire surface of the pipette, even on the smallest diameters.
Feeding Efficiency: Integration with Omron
To make the SPM24 a truly effective tool for daily production, we focused on optimizing the loading system. To achieve this, we implemented several key features:
- Omron Scara Robot: A robotic support chosen for its high repeatability in picking and placing parts, thereby ensuring consistent cycles over time.
- Customized Robot Gripper: The gripper is fitted with custom-designed fingers to ensure the product is never scratched. In addition, this design provides a secure yet extremely delicate hold on the pipettes.
- Mechanical Alignment: An effective solution to ensure that the part enters the processing cycle with the correct orientation.
